The Market
Grid. 🧀

London runs on markets. From 1,000-year-old food halls to punk rock stalls under railway bridges.

London Bridge

Borough Market. 🍩

A market has existed here since the 12th century. It sits under the Victorian railway arches, creating a loud, smoky, delicious cathedral of food.

The Paella

Look for the massive pans of steaming Paella at the entrance. The smell hits you from the street.

The Donuts

"Bread Ahead" donuts are legendary. They are overflowing with vanilla custard or honeycomb cream.

Punk Roots

Camden Lock. 🎸

Once the home of Amy Winehouse and the punk movement. It is a labyrinth of stalls located in former horse stables next to the Regent's Canal.

Cyberdog

A futuristic rave shop guarded by giant robots. Inside, it's dark, loud techno music, and UV lights. A sensory overload.

The Stables

You are literally shopping in 19th-century horse stalls. Look for the bronze horse statues still in place.

Canal Food

Grab some "Bang Bang Chicken" or halloumi fries and sit on a repurposed Vespa seat by the canal water.

Saturday Only

Portobello Road. 🏘️

The world's largest antique market. It winds through the wealthy neighborhood of Notting Hill, famous for its colorful terraced houses.

Timing:

Go on Saturday. That is when the antique dealers set up. Friday is for fashion/food. Sunday is dead.

Local Secret

Maltby Street Ropewalk. 🍷

If Borough Market is too crowded for you, go here. It is a narrow alleyway (the Ropewalk) lined with timber arches, gin bars, and gourmet stalls.

The Vibe

It feels like a Dickensian party. Flags hang overhead, and people drink cocktails out of teacups while leaning against brick walls.

Lassco

The market runs alongside "Lassco," an architectural salvage yard. You can buy a brownie and then browse 19th-century cast iron radiators.
